I recently did a lot of homework before purchasing my home system. First off, my credit was shot during my recent divorce so all these Goliath companies would not approve me. I was finally approved for a free systemthrough a major company but i had to sign a 5 yr contract. I dont know where I'll be in 5 years nor do i really want to make such a long commitment. So my search began. I called Simplisafe and was unimpressed with their suffocating customer service. The rep did NOT want me to hang up without purchasing. I dont like that. I want to search all my options and not be badgered into signing up. Plus, their system looked very cheaply made. I know they were in Times magazine or something similar but i was still not impressed. I looked at a few others and then came across HomeShield. ...
First off, their customer service line put me right through to a rep and he was so nice and helpful. He filled me in on his product and didnt make me feel like I had to join that minute. No "sign up now for this promotion only lasting today" gimmicks. He just laid out all the facts and was very professional. I did have to pay for the system up front and my monitoring is only $21.99 a month but they do not HAVE to overcharge for monitoring. I disagree with the writer on staying away from cheap monitoring. Just because a company doesnt charge an arm and a leg for monitoring does NOT make them sketchy. It makes them affordable. Believe it or not, there are companies trying to appeal to the class of population that I am in who just cannot afford $30 + a month. They want our business so theyre will to not make quite as much to get our business.... So i disagree with that warning. (sorry im rambling) They have all the features as the FrontPoint but its more affordable. They have a very reputable monitoring center, they have state of the art Honeywell tenchology, and they have a very easy to install package. They have surveilance packages as well. I purchased their Elite Package so I can also monitor my home visually from my Iphone as im also out of town a lot. My daughter is 19 and going off to college in the fall and I fully intend to purchase a system for her apartment. Yes, i paid for my system up front but that's ok because it was still in my budget and much cheaper (actually the cheapest) of the other companies i researched. I received it in 3 days. I had it installed within 15 minutes, programmed and ready. Overall on a star system I would give it 5 stars because it met every single one of my needs. Simple, affordable, and secure.
Just wondering if anyone else has looked into them?
I also noticed they are in an upcoming episode of Lifetime's Designing Spaces so that made me even more confident of their reputation.

Time to Take House Security Critically
June 29, 2011 |

Residence intrusions keep on to rise. In the 80′s when crack cocaine hit the streets crime rose an average of 26 % in most important metropolitan areas. Now, a major contributor to home intrusions is the drug Methamphetamine. Burglary and thefts from auto’s are the most prevalent neighborhood crimes. Generally, breaking into an car gives the thief a bonus, access to the remote manage making it possible for the house’s garage door to be opened. Home burglary is rampant simply because it is one of the simplest crimes to commit, 50 percent the time with no compelled entry needed. Most house intrusions come about throughout daylight hrs although property owners are away. The burglar will in quite a few cases watch your home for a couple of days to see when you are out.
Even though property burglary is a person of the best crimes to commit, it is also a single of the least difficult to prevent. Neighborhood Watch is a good commencing position, and is an established crime-reduction plan. Most police departments are incredibly supportive of these programs and will supply facts and materials on how to set up a plan. Members view out for their neighbors and report suspicious things to do to the police department. An expression utilised frequently in these groups is “hardening the target”. Hardening the target indicates measures you can take to lead to a thief to bypass your house and move on to an less complicated target. Some of these goods contain working with quality deadbolt locks, installing effect resistant glass on certain windows so an individual can’t break the glass and attain in and unlock the door, putting in sound exterior doors, setting up motion sensing outdoor lighting, and other folks tailored to your distinct situation.
Most of the protection objects described are fairly affordable approaches to “harden your target”. Also, quite a few large tech gadgets once considered cost prohibitive are now inexpensive. For case in point, a wireless video surveillance method can be purchase for around $50.00. Just mount the small camera in the area to be seen and view the picture on a channel on your property Tv set. Elaborate systems, nonetheless, can nonetheless be costly.
Think about putting in a house security system. This is taking “hardening the target” to the highest degree. Residences with no safety programs are 3 instances much more probably to be broken into than houses with security techniques. 90 % of police feel alarms deter burglary attempts. A total document could be devoted to this a single issue, but lets appear at the primary factors. You will listen to the phrases hardwired or wireless used when describing property alarm programs. If you are renting your accommodation, a wi-fi technique is the best choice mainly because you can just take the method with you when you move. If you very own your residence, both kind system can be utilized. Most protection experts tend to favor hardwire, but the damaging aspect is the increased price because of to the installation time involved. Wi-fi, by the nature of the title, is set up in several hours in contrast to days with hardwired techniques. A detrimental facet is possessing to fret with batteries. Eventually either method detects an intrusion and sounds an alarm. The alarm can be a nearby siren or bell, or a silent alarm to a safety monitoring company, or the two. The security representative surveying your house can make suggestions for your very best safety primarily based on your dwelling designs.
If you are just living as typical, you are putting your family, and your property at unneeded danger. Property intrusions have increased to the point exactly where each house owner have to turn out to be a lot more knowledgeable of the hazards, and discover about the latest safety solutions readily available to shield ones household, household, and valuables. Make positive your property is safe and safe.

Burglar alarms have become standard equipment in stores and other businesses, and they're becoming increasingly common in private homes as well. If you've ever shopped for a home security system, then you know there are a wide variety of options available. These systems range from do-it-yourself kits you can pick up for $10 to sophisticated whole-house security networks that must be installed by professionals. But, as it turns out, most alarm systems are actually built around the same basic design concepts.

I am in the healthcare industry looking to develop a Home Medical Monitoring division, using a subcontract company to provide the service, such as Criticom or Rapod Response. Could anyone provide any feedback on which is the best company to provide this service?

In my experience, I've found that giving my elderly parents their own medical alarms for seniors at least gave me peace of mind in the moments that I was not able to be there for them. That way, they could get emergency help if needed, just by pushing a button and nothing else. Anyways, I find every little bit helps. Best of luck to everyone in their search.

Home security alarm systems is a independent part of home automation. It is used to monitor the door, window opening, intrusion, or outdoor protection. And can be with X10 equipment such as lighting, air condition etc. Maybe it will be part of smart home systems in the near future.

I'm trying to access my bank account (Chase.com) using the Firefox browser, and today all of a sudden it throws this error message:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to chaseonline.chase.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

          What Should I Do?

            If you usually connect to
this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

          Technical Details

          I Understand the Risks

If you understand what's going on, you
can tell Firefox to start trusting this site's identification.
Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is
tampering with your connection.
Don't add an exception unless
you know there's a good reason why this site doesn't use trusted identification.

Anyone have an idea what I should do? I need to get into the account, but I'm nervous to proceed in case someone has hijacked my connection...

In my opinion, not all monitoring services are the same. Speed of response and operator professionalism does vary. Personally i have had very positive experiences with Criticom (CMS) Central Station. They are typically fast, professional and friendly, traits I found lacking in some other national companies.
I recommend that you find a professional, licensed security dealer in your area and use the monitoring service they offer.

A good wireless alarm system has two advantages over a wired system - first, each window, door or motion detector can be a separate zone. You will know exactly which window or door is opened or breached. Second, because there are no wires, wiring does not have to be hidden or run to difficult locations. This is not generally an issue with new construction. In many cases hiding wire is not a problem in an existing home either - if the structure of the home permits hiding wires and the security installer is skilled.
The disadvantages of wireless is the need (and the cost) of replacing batteries, the much higher cost of parts (which can be offset by the cost of labor for a wired system). The wireless system also has greater complexity as each door and window has a transmitter which can eventually fail. Better manufacturers like Honeywell and GE Security offer more reliable equipment.
That said, the very best way to choose is to find a good, reliable, licensed alarm dealer in your area and ask for their recommendation. It is important to go with a system that is recommended and well supported by your security company.

I've been hearing more and more about the "home automation" products alarm companies are offering. I never fully subscribed to the idea that alarm systems were worth their weight in $$ and contract hassles (I simply slap NRA stickers all over my house and keep a loaded shotgun on hand).

But now that I'm seeing everything that you can control with the home automation via your cell phone, I'm getting more interested in this new type of security service offering. Is it possible to control door locks, window locks, etc. with home automation, or are they intended primarily for lighting and such?

Anyone here have their credit card with Capital One? Are you getting inundated with spam (surface or email)?

Ah - it's working again. I simply turned off FileZilla, rebooted, and the files are loading fine now. I'm guessing it had to do with the fact that FileZilla updated, but didn't restart itself.

I'm getting the error message "no more available rules, suppress some old rules to make room" in LNS (Look N Stop firewall) whenever I try and upload files after the latest update to FileZilla 3.5.1.

The other thing - it's asking me permission to let FileZilla through for every single file in the queue - normally it just asks once and then rolls with it. Any ideas what to do?

I will do so. I've already run Microsoft Security Essentials, but did not turn up anything. I also ran Spybot S&D and SuperAntiSpyware. But nothing appeared wrong.

Thanks for getting in touch with us. The LinkedIn scam was brought to our attention this morning and we've investigating. I suggest you run anti-spyware software such as AVG or a freeware utility such as Spybot Search & Destroy or a McAfee scanner. That should catch the culprit (most likely a modification to your hosts file, which is redirecting requests to linkedin.com).

I received an email claiming to be from LinkedIn stating that my account was blocked. I do not remember if I clicked on the link provided or not, but I usually do not click links in such emails.

Now, however, my browser will not let me connect to LinkedIn. The browser just runs and runs but does not connect to LinkedIn.com. I can get to any other website with no problem.

Is there a fix for this?

Couldn't agree more with you asterix. I think sooner or later the SEC is going to sack it to them (or at least I hope so). If they don't, I wouldn't be surprised if this release makes FB lose yet another chunk of users.

If I were Google Plus, I would spend all my time making it as privacy-friendly as possible, being that they don't seem to have any other significant advantage over Facebook at the time (let's put it this way: when you log into my Google+ account, you can hear crickets chirping).

Then again, Google doesn't exactly have a history of being the master of privacy protection either, lol.

Did anyone else notice that Facebook now has "phonebook" style contact pages up where you can see, at a glance, the phone numbers of all your friends? And when were they going to let the public in on this?

I HATE the fact that FB always releases potentially privacy infringing updates with zero communication or asking permission from its users.

We're reviewed quite a few security companies and their various alarm systems over the years, but I'm guessing your probably referring to our home security systems reviews article that rates the top 3 home security systems and won our 2010 best of security award.

In the event that that article doesn't have what you're looking for, try the "Search" function in the menu to help you hone in on the right article - simply type in keywords that describe what you're seeking.

And as always, you're welcome to comment here in the forum or on an individual article on the main site - we read and respond to comments on a regular basis.

I read somewhere that you guys have the best home security systems reviews on the net, but I can't seem to find the article everyone is referring to! Could you please point me in the right direction?

And does the article include self-installation tips as well? I'm somewhat handy, and would like to setup a customized system that I'll be able to monitor while away from home.

Here's another vote for the poster strips - they're not only super strong (if they can hold the weight of a heavy poster they can easily hold your little motion sensor for many years), but they're super thin, so you can hide them easily and it will appear as if your motion sensor is literally attached to the walls.

Since I'm a fan of hiding wires, etc. and making things look clean and seamless, finding these poster strips was a huge plus when it came to setting up my home alarm system.

I just bought some 3M poster strips (small size). I figure if they can handle the weight of a poster, they should be able to handle my little motion sensors. I'll post back once I switch the pads out.

I'm using the security software NOD 32 (v4) by ESET Security. I've used it for years (since earlier versions), and have never had too much of an issue, until this morning. I get the error "Analysis of application protocols will not function. An error occurred while starting services. Analysis of application protocols (POP3, HTTP) will not function."

I had recently installed Windows 7 (64-bit) SP1, along with a string of critical updates, then did system restore to an earlier date (because I incorrectly thought the update had messed up my monitor settings), and finally proceeded to undo the system restore. I had to hit update one more time and then everything appeared to return to normal, but maybe this screwed up NOD 32?
